Dr Robert Barr
BE (Hons), ME, PhD, FIE (Aust), CPEng, AM
Robert is an Electrical Engineer based on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
He began his career in the electricity supply industry in 1973 with Prospect Electricity as a cadet engineer before being appointed to professional engineer in 1976. It was here that he gained experience in electricity distribution, including load forecasting and system planning.
Robert then joined Illawarra Electricity as System Control Engineer in 1982 and was later appointed to Area Manager of Nowra with overall responsibility for electricity supply to 28,000 customers in the Shoalhaven area of New South Wales.
Since 1990, Robert has managed and worked for his company, Electric Power Consulting Pty. Ltd. During this time he has developed strong client relationships in both domestic and international markets and has taken on leadership roles within the profession. He has been a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of Wollongong since 2003 and the President of the Electrical Engineers Society of Australia (EESA) since 2010.
Robert received the great honour of being recognised as the National Professional Electrical Engineer of the Year in 2012 by the Electrical College Board of Engineers Australia. He also received an Order of Australia (AM) medal in 2013 for significant service to engineering, particularly electrical energy supply and distribution.
